Voluntary Sector Marketplace

Strengthen, share, support

A big THANK YOU to all of the voluntary sector organisations/groups and university staff & students that attended the Voluntary Sector Marketplace on the 24th of November. It was great to see such brilliant cross-sector collaboration at the event, and we are excited to see how the valuable connections that have been formed are utilised in the future!

We brought over 20 community organisations together with more than 300 nursing students and lecturers at the University, to discuss the future of the voluntary sector and its impact on health and social care in communities. We also invited staff from all colleges across the university to start conversations about how the voluntary sector can be implemented into all curriculums, to create more mutually beneficial support systems between the sector of higher education with the voluntary sector. This event was a part of our commitment to supporting the public health module for nursing students at the university and included a series of lectures under the title of ‘Community Capacity Conference’, delivered with support from both university staff, and charity and community groups, and our own team.

Here’s what some of the attendees had to say-

“The event was very well planned, and the organisers were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable…the stall we had was busy for the duration and we had some very interesting interactions and managed to wax lyrical about STAND TO and the service that we provide. Many thanks for the invite and we look forward to working with you again in 2023 “ DAAS

It has opened my eyes to the possibilities both for employment and to signpost people to. It has highlighted that there may be opportunities and options out there for me once I graduate… I think what the volunteer sector do is absolutely amazing and I would imagine that it could be very rewarding” University Student

“Seeing so many students so enthusiastic was amazing” Healthwatch Derbyshire

“With the wealth of knowledge gathered at this event, I am seriously considering working in the voluntary sector after my study” University Student

“Allowed me to broaden my mind as to what public health services are available and the realisation of how big of an impact they have on society” University Student
